In order to ensure a smooth and timely implementation of your new voice and/or data services, please review the different stages of the activation process that is outlined on our Activation Process & Responsibilities page. Under each stage you will find information regarding what to expect and what we expect from you. Reviewing the details on that page prior to installation will help ensure a successful self-installation.

Below are the 5 simple steps to get you started.

  1. Review https://univoip.com/activation/
  2. Ensure your network is ready for VoIP
  3. Connecting Phones to your Local Area Network
  4. Activate your Phones
  5. Make and receive calls!

Connect Phones to your Local Area Network

Once you have made all of the necessary changes to ensure that your network environment will support your UniVoIP Phone System, the next step is to physically connect the phones to your Local Area Network (LAN). There are two different phone connections options. See section A below if your phones will powered by network switches that support Power over Ethernet. Complete section B if PoE bricks will be used to supply power.

A) If your local LAN switches will provide power to the phones using PoE:

  1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to your network LAN jack and the other to the phone port marked by the symbol on the bottom of your UniVoIP phone.
  2. If you also need to connect your computer to the LAN, connect an Ethernet cable from your computer's network port to the phone port marked PC, also on the bottom of your UniVoIP phone.
  3. You phones should now be powered on. Proceed to the Activation section.

B) If you phones will be powered by PoE bricks:

  1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the network icon connector marked by the  symbol on the power supply and the other end to the network LAN jack. Connect the phone power to a power outlet.
  2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the phone icon connector marked on your power supply and the other end to the phone port marked by the   symbol on the bottom of your UniVoIP phone.
  3. Connect the phone power supply into a power outlet.
  4. If you also need to connect your computer to the LAN, connect an Ethernet cable from your computer's network port to the phone port marked PC, also on the bottom of your UniVoIP phone.
  5. You phones should now be powered on. Proceed to the Activation section.

Activate your Phones

One of the last steps of the Self-Install process is to activate each of your UniVoIP phones. This step will require that you know the extension numbers and related 6-digit PINs, assigned to your account. This information can be found in the Completion Letter email that is sent to you from the UniVoIP Sales and/or Provisioning teams.

Activating a UniVoip phone will enable the phone to receive incoming calls and make outbound calls, as well as, make use of any of your other UniVoIP Phone System features and services.

The top of the phone’s LCD should display “Logged Out”.

  1. Press the softkey button, directly under ACTIVATE. The LCD will then display:  Extension:
  2. Enter the extension number that you would like to assign to the phone.
  3. If you have login/logout privileges, the LCD will now display; PIN:
  4. Enter the 6-digit PIN assigned to that particular extension and press the softkey button, directly under ENTER.

    Note

As stated above, your Completion Letter will list the PIN for each of your extensions.
  5. Once a phone has been successfully activated, the LCD will display; EXT: NNN where NNN is the extension currently logged into that particular phone.
